What is a New Year resolution?

If you are anything like the Great North Lodges team, you’ve made a New Year resolution to change an undesired trait or behaviour. Or perhaps you want to accomplish a personal goal or improve your life.

We conducted a quick poll on the local high street in Aviemore and here are the top 10 common resolutions for Highland folk –

  • Lose weight
  • Exercise more
  • Spend more time with family and friends
    Feshiebridge Cottage
  • Quit smoking
  • Save money
  • Get more organised
  • Travel more
  • Get a hobby
  • Live life to the full

Do any of the above sound familier?

We reckon you can easily achieve 8 out of the 10 resolutions by spending time in the the Cairngorms National Park.

We have 4 of the 5 highest mountains in Scotland to climb. Stunning glens. Lochs for swimming, canoeing and kayaking. Forest trails for walkers and mountain bikers. Castles to explore and improve your knowledge of history. Countryside Rangers to show you the wildlife and maybe spot some rare species.

Above all the Cairngorms National Park has peace and quiet to sit, read, meditate and contemplate.

How do you keep a New Year resolution?

  • Be realistic
  • Plan ahead
  • Outline your plan
  • Think of the pros and cons
  • Talk about it
  • Reward yourself
  • Track your progress
  • Stick to it
